New to Google Cloud Storage on GCP? Here’s What You Need to Know

Whether you are running a personal website or a business site for your company or organization, it is important to think about the storage type that you are using for all of the files and information on your site. Google Cloud Storage has become one of the most popular forms of storage when it comes to a website. This worldwide option allows for data and information to be retrieved at any time of day, and in any amount; whether large or small. Google Cloud is highly preferred because of its affordability. If you are just starting out, you do not have a ton of money to invest in your website design or storage. If you need to expand, you can do so and you can make the decisions yourself as you see fit. You can also use Google Cloud Storage for business data such as disaster recovery, archives and data.

How Is Your Data Organized?

Anything that you have included as part of your Google Cloud will be organized by you, into something called buckets. These buckets can hold as much or as little information as you want. This is just a really easy and convenient way to organize your data in case you need to access something in a short amount of time, later on. Everything remains where you put it and you can keep things organized however you think is most convenient and accessible.

Uploading

When you want to upload information or files onto your Google Cloud Storage, you do so using the developer’s console. You can also use this process if you are transferring your data from a previous location to your new Google location. If you are utilizing different storage options at once, you can set up transfers so that everything stays in sync on a regular basis. You won’t have to do anything in the future once this is set up initially. It is also very easy to log on at any point and add something to the mix. You should be sure to do this regularly so you don’t lose any data or information because of a technological issue.

Managing Your Data

You can share your data and information with other Google Cloud members as well as other domains. You are in complete control of your files and you can determine who can see what. You can then use these files and information in order to build your website or program something.

Google Cloud Storage

Google Cloud Storage – How to get one

First, head on over to the Google Cloud website (cloud.google.com). Once you arrive you are going to be granted some information about Google Cloud and what all you are able to do with it. It shows you different pricing options to use Google Cloud (storage isn’t cheap to produce, so it does need to charge for services). However, if you are interested in testing it out but don’t want to make a financial commitment just yet, you are able to “Try it Free.” This way, you have 12 months to test out Google Cloud to see if it is right for you. From there, you are able to either cancel the service or opt-in for one of the paid packages. It is up to you.

Taking Advantage of the Free Trial Period

When on the Google Cloud Platform website click on the “TRY IT FREE” blue button. There are several of these scattered throughout the page, so you shouldn’t have an issue finding it (one is located in the upper right corner of the page and one is listed in the bottom of the page). Once you click on the button you are going to be taken to a new page where you fill out your individual information.

The side of the page informs you again about having access to up to $300 worth of Google Cloud coverage that lasts for 12 months. It also provides the “Google Cloud Platform Free Trial Terms of Service” link if you are interested in reading this information. On the page though, you need to select your current country of origin, Agree on the term of usage, and then accept or denial email update from Google Cloud Platform. In the next page, you also need to include your contact information, such as your name, phone number and email address. Lastly, you’ll select how you wish to pay for the service after the 12 months and fill your credit card. Lastly, click the “Start  my free trial.” This launches your trial Google Cloud period.

With access to Google Cloud Platform, you are able to store information onto your cloud account whenever you want, which is exactly why it is such a valuable service. You can determine if it works best for your own needs.
